Peruvian theologian the Rev. Gustavo Gutiérrez, father of influential liberation theology, has died

Gutiérrez’s liberation theology put the poor as its priority and exerted great influence on doctrine and the history of the church in Latin America. His 1971 book “A Theology of Liberation” had a profound impact by proposing a faith based on social justice focused on the poor and positing that poverty “is a scandalous state, an attack on human dignity, and therefore, contrary to the will of God.” (AP News)

UK Christian Convicted for Silent Prayer Outside Abortion Clinic

Last week, an Army veteran and father of three was found guilty of praying silently in a large abortion buffer zone in England and fined the equivalent of $11,700, Alliance Defending Freedom UK reported. “This is a legal turning point of immense proportions. A man has been convicted today because of the content of his thoughts—his prayers to God—on the public streets of England,” Smith-Connor’s attorney Jeremiah Igunnubole said in response to the ruling.
